IPv6 ensures fast and reliable connections for users

The introduction of IPv6 addresses solves the problem of IPv4 address exhaustion. IPv6 enables all users to continue communicating with each other on the internet. It also ensures the availability of online services, as well as fast and reliable connections for all internet users.

The introduction of IPv6 addresses solves the problem of IPv4 address exhaustion. IPv6 enables all users to continue communicating with each other on the internet. It also ensures the availability of online services, as well as fast and reliable connections for all internet users.

The launch of IPv6 decreases significantly the traffic that passes through network address translation (NAT system) and thereby the costs for updating and maintaining the system. IPv6 also improves user experience because all online services and their features do not necessarily work with NAT.

IPv6 provides network and content service providers a better conception of the usage volume of their service as there is no longer an unknown number of different users behind one address.

Since not all users can have their own IPv4 address due to the limited amount of the addresses, telecommunications operators have divided one IPv4 address between several users by means of NAT. This has, in turn, caused problems to providers of network and content services because all network services and their features do not necessarily support NAT. There are no such problems with IPv6. Therefore, the introduction of IPv6 improves the user experience for the services.

Multiple major operators have already adopted IPv6 both in Finland and abroad. These include Comcast and Deutsche Telekom as well as DNA, Elisa and Telia in Finland. Content and network service providers using IPv6 include Google, Facebook, Youtube and Netflix. In Finland, such providers include Yle, Iltalehti, MTV and Fonecta.
